Pipeline Studio
Pipeline Studio reads your CI configuration and draws every pipeline as a metro line: which trigger starts it, which steps run in order or in parallel, where the stages and deployments are and where someone has to press Run. It works on whole repositories, not just one file.
Features
- Open a repository folder, drop a folder or .zip, or paste YAML: CI files are found wherever they live
- Every pipeline on a departure board: default, branches, pull requests, tags and custom pipelines
- Metro-map view of steps, parallel groups (fail-fast), stages, deployment environments and manual gates
- Reused steps traced back to their YAML anchor, with the keys each use overrides
- Step details: image, caches, services, artifacts, changeset conditions, size, runners, scripts and pipes with their variables
- Checks for typos in keys, undefined services and caches, manual first steps, repeated deployments, unpinned pipes and images, and secrets written into the file
- Shared pipelines (import: repo:branch:pipeline) resolved when the other repository is loaded too
- YAML side by side: click a station to jump to its lines, move the cursor to select the station
- Visual editor: forms for steps, stages and parallel groups, + on the line to add steps, drag to reorder, pipe catalog, templates, undo/redo
- Edits keep your comments and formatting; review the diff, then save into the opened folder or download
- Run simulator: which pipeline a push, pull request, tag or manual run starts, skipped steps, fail-fast, manual gates, timings, build minutes and what-if failures, played back on the map
- Watch the run in 3D: a metro world with gates, deployment portals, caches and services, a follow camera, and video recording
How to use it
- Open your repository folder (or drop a .zip, or paste bitbucket-pipelines.yml).
- Pick a pipeline on the departure board and follow its line.
- Click a station for its details, and fix anything Checks reports in the YAML pane.
FAQ
Is my repository uploaded?
No. Files are read in your browser and only CI files are kept; nothing is sent to Bitbucket or anywhere else.
Can I edit my pipeline visually?
Yes. Click a station to edit it, use the + on the line to add steps, drag stations to reorder them, and add pipes from a catalog. Only the lines you change are rewritten, so comments and formatting stay, and you review a diff before saving into your repository folder or downloading the file.
Which pipeline will run when I push?
Use the Simulate tab: enter the branch, pull request, tag or custom pipeline and the files you changed. It applies Bitbucket's pattern rules (the more specific pattern wins, default only for branch pushes), changeset conditions, parallel groups, fail-fast and manual gates, then plays the run step by step with estimated timings and build minutes.
Which CI systems are supported?
Bitbucket Pipelines today. GitHub Actions and GitLab CI are next; their files are already detected when you open a repository.
Does it validate my bitbucket-pipelines.yml?
Yes. It reports YAML errors with their line, unknown or misspelled keys, and Bitbucket rules such as a manual first step, an environment deployed twice, or a service or cache that is not defined.
