SQL Diff
Compare two pieces of SQL as SQL: both sides are formatted the same way first, so only real changes show. When both define tables, you also get a list of schema changes and the migration that turns one into the other.
Features
- Ignores formatting, line breaks and keyword case (both sides formatted with sql-formatter for 12 dialects); comments optional
- Side-by-side line diff of the formatted SQL
- Statement view: added, removed and changed statements, matched by what they are about (CREATE TABLE users, UPDATE orders…), with moved statements treated as unchanged
- Schema view for CREATE TABLE scripts: tables and columns added or removed, and per column the type, NULL, default, primary key, unique and reference changes
- Migration SQL from the original schema to the modified one for PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite or SQL Server
- Copy the change list or the migration
How to use it
- Paste the original SQL on the left and the modified SQL on the right.
- Pick the dialect; formatting differences disappear.
- Read the side-by-side diff, the statement list, or for schemas the changes and the migration.
FAQ
Why compare SQL instead of plain text?
Two queries can be the same with different spacing, line breaks or keyword case. Reformatting both sides first leaves only the differences that change what the SQL does.
Can it generate a migration?
Yes, when both sides contain CREATE TABLE statements: it writes CREATE TABLE, ALTER TABLE ADD/DROP/ALTER COLUMN, foreign keys and DROP TABLE statements for the chosen dialect. Renames look like a drop plus an add, and SQLite gets comments where it can’t alter a column, so review it before running.
Is my SQL uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser.
